CHOS INSTRUCTOR (Male position open)
Do you have a passion for the outdoors? Do you want to share your love and experience of outdoor adventures with the next generation? Do you want to get paid to have a life-changing summer, hiking, climbing, rafting, and camping? If so, Camp Henry is looking for instructors for our outdoor school! Camp Henry is a summer camp program located in scenic western North Carolina at the Lake Logan Episcopal Center. 450-500 children and youth, grades K-12, from a wide variety of backgrounds experience fun, community, and growth in a spiritually uplifting environment with half week, week, and 2 week programs. One of our most popular programs is the Camp Henry Outdoor School, or CHOS. This is a wilderness expedition and leadership program for middle school and high school youth with a focus on faith and spirituality. Participants learn to plan for and travel safely and enjoyably in a wilderness setting before embarking on 2-3 night expedition into the wild. Each CHOS group will spend a day rock climbing, a day whitewater rafting, and a multiple day backpacking trip. We are seeking motivated, qualified, and responsible instructors for the summer. CHOS instructors should have training and/or experience leading groups in a wilderness setting and must be 18 years or older by June 15, 2019 (21 or older strongly preferred). Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork are a must. A passion for and care of the wilderness is also a must. Wilderness First Responder certification is mandatory; Camp Henry will pay/reimburse staff up to half the cost of this training if hired. This is a very popular program, and the expectation of CHOS Instructors is high; your compensation reflects this.
Applications can be filled out online here.
Say Hello to our 2019 staff!!
Howdy! My name is Katherine Boone, and I am stoked to serve as one of Camp Henry’s Program Coordinators this summer! I am originally from Norman, Oklahoma and currently attend the University of Utah where I am studying Parks, Recreation, and Tourism with an Outdoor Recreation Studies emphasis and a Religious Studies minor. At the U, I am a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women and the Campus Symphony, in which I play cello. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to and playing music, going on road trips, and, when it’s warm, spending as much time outside as possible. This is my first summer at Camp Henry, but this is not where my camp experience begins. For the past two summers, I was a summer staff counselor at St. Crispin’s Episcopal Camp in Oklahoma. I’m excited to step out of my comfort zone, bring a new perspective, and make new memories with campers and staff in this thin place!
Hey everybody! My name is Henry Chandler, and I could not be more excited to be back at Camp Henry for my third summer on staff and first summer as one of the Program Coordinators. I live in Asheville, NC and attend Trinity Episcopal Church in Downtown Asheville. I also attend Appalachian State University and am currently wrapping up my sophomore year. I have been going to Camp Henry from the minute they let me in and have loved every moment since then. I cannot wait to sing, laugh, and dance with everyone who comes to camp. Some of my interests are being outside, collecting Hawaiian shirts, all sports, hanging with friends (while meeting strangers), swimming in the lake and playing games. One of the greatest things I have learned from going to camp is the significance of unconditional love, and I can’t wait to give that back to the Camp Henry community. Hope you have a great rest of the school year and I can’t wait to start the best summer ever!!
Hi there! My name is George Lomas, and I am so excited to be working at Camp Henry this summer as the Media Specialist. I am from Burlington Vermont (home of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream) and study film at Ithaca College in upstate New York. At school, I play on the varsity tennis team, and if I have free time, you can find me on the school green playing spikeball or ultimate frisbee. I was fortunate enough to finish my second year of school abroad in London, where I traveled around Europe and interned with a sound healer, which was an awesome experience. On the calmer days, I like to play guitar, listen to music, edit photos, and when I wanna treat myself, dig into a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough ice cream. If you see me around, be sure to come say hi and if you try to play me in spikeball, you will shortly regret it. I can’t wait to be a part of the beautiful community at Camp Henry and share a life changing adventure together. See ya this summer!!
Hola! My name is Lauren Delmastro. I am incredibly thankful and excited to be joining Camp Henry for the first time this summer as the Nursing Assistant! I grew up in Wisconsin and graduated in May 2018 from UW-Madison. Go Badgers! I studied Spanish and Biochemistry and did research at the Carbone Cancer Center. This fall, I will be attending Rush Medical College in Chicago to begin my medical training. Besides a science and health nerd, I am a cheese-fanatic, self-proclaimed foodie, baker, gardener, runner, and lover of the outdoors. On trail is when I am most at peace with myself and the world. At camp, I hope to combine my passion for health and the outdoors to enable everyone a safe and unforgettable experience. I look forward to the morning hikes, campfires, fun games, personal growth, and many new friendships! Come say hi if you see me in my adventure hat! Get ready for a great summer adventure!
Hello everyone! I’m Emma! I love lakes, mountains, backcountry travel, and all the beautiful things that come with that. Lakes and mountains have always been an important part of my life, and I’m so excited to spend a summer working in the North Carolina mountains by Lake Logan. I’m working as a ski instructor in Colorado this winter, and I spent this past fall whitewater canoeing and backpacking in Big Bend Texas. I learned a lot from backcountry trips in middle and high school, and I can’t wait to be a part of that experience for others. Looking forward to an awesome summer, thank you all!

I can't wait to spend this summer laughing, singing, and spreading love and joy in whatever ways possible!! See you soon!

I am so excited to spend my summer back at Camp Henry and make it the best one yet! Hello! My name is Amar Donepudi, and I’m extremely honored and excited to serve as a counselor at Camp Henry! I was raised in Hickory, NC, and have been coming to camp for the past 10 years. Camp Henry has without a doubt been the biggest part of my faith journey and has given me memories and friendships that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Back home, I have a strong interest in percussion and storytelling, two things that have also helped me in my journey through Christ. I can’t wait to start working this summer, and I sincerely hope that I can help give the campers an incredible experience that they’ll never forget.
Hey y’all! I’m Rebecca Scothorn and oh-so-excited to be spending this summer at Camp Henry. Although it will be my first year on staff, it’ll be my tenth summer (I think...) spent at the best place on earth. I am currently a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill, the second best place on the planet, and am planning on majoring in Nutrition and basketball watching. Growing up I did competitive gymnastics, and now I play club field hockey at UNC. I love hiking and eno-ing and all things naturey. Even though I’ll be chacos all summer long, I promise you I will not have any sort of a chaco tan by the end of the summer #palelife. I have grown up attending Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Asheville and spent my last three years of high school on Youth Council for WNC. Going to Camp Henry every summer really set my faith journey into motion as a young child, and I know I would not be the same person I am today if I had never had the privilege of going here. I really hope I can help make this summer the most amazing one yet!!!! Also - Help me reach my goal of being sponsored by pepsi!!!!! (Not actually, that would be cool though)

Hello! My name is Michael Vezmar, and I can’t wait for my second year as a counselor at Camp Henry! By that time, I will have completed my second year at Michigan State University, where I am pursuing a Materials Science Engineering degree. At Michigan State, I am a member of the Spartan Marching Band, Spartan Brass, and MSU Concert Band. Music is a huge part of my life; I started taking piano lessons twelve years ago, picked up a trumpet in sixth grade and have continued to work on both ever since. A fun fact about me: I am from Michigan, I have lived here since my freshman year in high school, and almost every year I have made the drive down to Canton for Camp (yes, it is that special). I also love to run, play video games, and play frisbee with friends. Camp Henry has held a special place in my heart since my first year as a camper around eleven years ago. I absolutely love the intimate friendship and freedom of expression that so many of us have found solely at Camp, and I’m looking forward to doing it all again this summer. See you there!

CHOS ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Hey everyone! My name is Sarah, and this is my second year serving as CHOS Assistant Director at Camp Henry. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to keep coming back to this wonderful community! During the year I am an outdoor education instructor in Southern California and can’t wait to get back to the blue ridge! Get ready for an amazing summer with an amazing staff, full of hiking, rafting, climbing, splashing, laughing, and smiling! Most importantly get ready to experience God’s beautiful creations, simply.
Greetings! I am Jenna Sharrits, and I am extremely excited to serve as the Assistant Director once again!! I graduate from the University of North Carolina Asheville in 2018. Where I majored in Health and Wellness Promotion with a minor in Religious Studies. I am currently the Youth Missioner for the Asheville Episcopal Youth Ministry, which is one youth ministry for 5 of the small to medium Episcopal churches in the Asheville area. Simply up I love to work with youth as they grow their faith in a loving community. Some interesting facts about me include my favorite animal is a raccoon, I have run 7 half marathons (and counting), and I enjoy matching and laughing with others! I can’t wait to share a magical and fun summer with you at Camp!
Hi! My name is Kathryn Florack. I am completely grateful and happy to continue my fourth year as the Camp Henry Director! I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2010 and was blessed to spend the next few years working and exploring around the US. More recently, for roughly two years, I was the youth director at Ascension in Hickory, NC. When I’m not hanging out with my family or playing Pocahontas (which involves running in the woods while singing ‘Just Around the Riverbend’), I focus on my big goals of saving the world and finding stardom on ‘Survivor’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Other interests include travel, friends and family, snowboarding, music, exclamation points, the enneagram, ultimate frisbee, push-ups, and being outside as much as possible. None of this would have been possible without Camp Henry and Lake Logan; I have had the unbelievable fortune of attending Camp Henry ever since I was eleven years old, and after many years, being a camper, counselor, associate director, I am so very honored and excited to continue this journey. Before I became the Director of Camp Henry, I also had the wonderful opportunity to work on the Conference Center side, working at Lake Logan during the non-summer months, which allowed me to share the spiritually “thin” place with people of all ages while enjoying the amazing property year round. This is a place that teaches you how to laugh so hard you cry, about the power of unconditional love, how to make friendships that last a lifetime, about the consequences of singing and playing all day, about the wonder of God, and how to appreciate all the beauty that life has to offer. Thank you so much for welcoming me into your community. I can’t wait for you to join us! I look forward to going on this beautiful adventure with you all!
