Say Hello to our Staff of 2018!!!

CHOS Instructor

Hello everyone! My name Nadine, and I am so excited to be joining the Camp Henry team this summer. I am a first year at Kenyon College studying Art History and World Literature. I am from Massachusetts and my absolute favorite place to be is hiking in the mountains. Along with the outdoors some of my other favorite things are ice cream, dutch braids, and pajamas. I spend a lot of my free time making music and tie-dying. I am eager to meet y’all and become a part of the wonderful Camp Henry family. See you there!

Hello, Camp Henry!!! My name is Eric Lenhart, and this is my first year as a CHOS instructor and will be my first time stepping onto Camp Henry this summer. I’m very excited to have be having a rocking summer of 2018 with everyone. I just finished my Sophomore year at Brevard College where I am studying Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education, say that 5 times fast. I grew up in Asheville and played soccer at A.C. Reynolds High School. I love being surrounded by these beautiful mountains and the wonders of WNC. I enjoy anything and everything you can do outdoors but two of my favorites are kayaking and backpacking. When I’m not outside you can find me eating ice cream, taking photos, or checking my closets for ghosts. I know that we are going to have a lot of fun this year, and I can’t wait to get to know all of the staff and the campers that come through Camp Henry. See you guys soon!!!!

Hey! Hi! Hello! My name is Bailey, and I'm so stoked to be the Nursing Assistant at camp this year! I graduated from the Univeristy of North Carolina at Asheville with a BS in Health & Wellness Promotion in 2016 and also obtained my licensure as an EMT-B at AB-Tech. I lived in Durham for a bit before moving back to Asheville and landing a job at Mission Health in January. I hope to attend WCU in the fall, as I embark on my quest to earn at least a MS in Nursing as an NP. Helping others has been vital to my well being ever since I can remember, and I finally combined that with my fascination with all things medical! How fortunate am I to get to do these while also acting as a conductor of unconditional love and hunting for the Boojum?! My first year on staff was in 2013, and I can’t wait to jump back in! I’ve stayed involved by serving on the Board of Directors of camp for almost two years. In my free time I enjoy ultimate frisbee, bouldering, volunteering for the Buncombe County Rescue Squad, and doing puzzles while watching the Great British Baking Show with my girlfriend Victoria and our two cats, Winnie and Otto. My life goals are to visit all US National Parks and like 30% of the places filmed in the Planet Earth series. My hero is my brother Zak, and if I could have any superpower, I would be a shapeshifter, so I could fly, be invisible, dive into the ocean, and turn into the Boojum to study its ways like no one ever has before! I can’t wait to meet you all soon!

Hi everyone! I’m Abby Woodward, and I’m so excited to be one of your LAMP Instructors this summer!! This will be my first year on staff, but I’m no stranger to Camp Henry. I was so lucky to be a camper for 10 years! I’m graduating from Appalachian State this year with a degree in Recreation Management. When I’m not in class, my favorite things to do are play outside, spend time with my friends and family, cook yummy food, do yoga, and hike and camp. There is nothing I love more than to be surrounded by our beautiful mountains. I love to share laughs and joy and love with the people around me and am so excited to do just that at Camp Henry this summer! Can’t wait to see you soon!!

What’s up everyone! I’m Luke and am excited to spend my third summer on staff at Camp Henry and my first as Lamp instructor! I have been attending Camp Henry since I was 6, and this will be the 15th consecutive summer I will have spent at our beautiful Lake Logan through camp. I have lived in Asheville my whole life where I have been a member of Trinity Episcopal Church since the time I was born. I graduated from Asheville School in 2016 and am now in my second year attending Centre College in Kentucky, where I enjoy getting on the nerves of Louisville and Kentucky fans by pointing out the success the schools from the Carolinas have had against them in recent years. I am a die-hard basketball and football fan and take playing intramural sports at my school way too seriously (you know I’m going for that championship in basketball this year!) I am excited to continue my journey through Camp Henry as Lamp Dad, and I believe I am the first Lamp instructor to have taken part in the program when it started a few years ago. I am looking forward to leading the new generation of Lampers as we all work together to find the true meaning of the Boojum! I cannot wait to see everybody this summer at my favorite place on earth, and remember I love it when you call me Lamp Papa! See y’all soon!

Hey everyone! My name is Lindsey. I’m a (fairly) recent graduate from THE UNC-Chapel Hill (Natty Champs ’17), and I’m currently living in Spain where I teach English. Yes, the siesta is definitely real, and yes, I take full advantage of it every day. In my free time when I’m not napping during siesta, I enjoy traveling, eating pizza, pretending that I’m going to learn Portuguese and thinking about camp. Fun facts about me: I’m a big fan of Celine Dion, I’ve never broken a bone, and I spend a good deal of time trying to convince everyone that my twin sister and I are actually clones. I’ve worked at Camp Henry for the past four summers, and I couldn't be more excited to be coming back for a fifth one, especially as Program Coordinator. I think inclusion and diversity are awesome, and I’m positive we’ll have an amazing summer together!

Hey, I’m Sarah, and I’m stoked to be serving as the part-time media specialist this summer! My family and I moved to Western NC a little over a year ago, so I’d never even heard of Camp Henry before last summer. Even though I didn’t grow up going to Camp Henry, I do have another Episcopal camp home: Camp Gravatt in Aiken, SC. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of room in my heart for another camp! Summertime is my favorite because it’s camp season, but during the year I’m a student at Kenyon College in Ohio. I plan to major in sociology and psychology and want to be a social worker or work for a nonprofit one day. Some things that are important to me: social justice, bees, poems that make your bones rattle, creating as little waste as possible, grammar, and my cat, Cady. Can’t wait to see what this summer brings!

Hey everybody! My name is Henry Chandler and I could not be more excited to be back at Camp Henry for my second summer on staff. I live in Asheville, NC and attend Trinity Episcopal Church in Downtown Asheville. I also attend Appalachian State University, and I am currently the Youth Director at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Banner Elk North Carolina. I have been going to Camp Henry from the minute they let me in and have loved every moment since then. I cannot wait to sing, laugh, and dance with everyone who comes to camp. Some of my interests are being outside, collecting Hawaiian shirts, all sports, hanging with friends (while meeting strangers), and playing games. One of the greatest things I have learned from going to camp is the significance of unconditional love, and I can’t wait to give that back to the Camp Henry community. Hope you have a great rest of the school year, and I can’t wait to start the best summer ever!!

Hi! My name is Kathleen Norton, and I am so excited for the opportunity to work at Camp Henry this summer! Since my first summer as a camper in second grade, I have dreamt of being a counselor and to share the magic of this camp with others. I will graduate from Carolina Day School this May and plan to study Mechanical Engineering in college. I love to run, laugh, sing at the top of my lungs, travel, and dance like nobody’s watching. Camp Henry is truly a special place and I can’t wait to have an amazing summer with you at camp!

Hi all! My name is Julia Hubbard, and I am beyond excited to be working as a counselor at Camp Henry for this upcoming summer of 2018! I have experienced the wonderful joy and unconditional love that is known as Camp Henry for the past 6 years of my life, and I plan on spreading that very same love for many years to come. I was born and raised in Asheville, NC, and in the fall of 2018 I plan on attending the UNC at Chapel Hill. I have been on the Youth Council of the Episcopal Diocese of WNC for two years, and youth leadership has always been my one true passion in this world. Some of my interests include playing the cello and mandolin, needlepointing with my church group, ultimate frisbee, hiking on the parkway, spending time with friends and family, and most of all spending my days at Camp Henry. Camp has always been a place of unconditional love and acceptance for me, and I am so eager to pass on and share the light of Christ with everyone. Hope to see you all there!

Hello! My name is Michael Vezmar, and I am so excited to join you at camp this summer! I currently am a college student at the Honors College at Michigan State University. I am an undecided major, but will most likely be studying Materials Science and Engineering. I also love to play piano and trumpet and have been doing both for years. Prior to living in Michigan for the duration of my high school career, my family and I lived in Hickory, North Carolina. This is where my mother heard about camp and decided to send us there. I am so grateful that she did! I was a camper here for eight years and thoroughly enjoyed my time at Camp Henry. Moving to Michigan after my ninth grade year made things much more difficult when summer rolled around, but thanks to an irresistible urge to return and a lot of patience and driving for my parents, I was able to return for three more summers. During my time at Camp I learned a lot about faith, love, God, and had a blast doing it. Camp Henry played such a large, positive role in my childhood, and I loved the idea of becoming a counselor so that I may pass that experience on to others. I cannot wait to see you all this summer; be prepared to have an amazing, fun, and unforgettable week!

Hello! My name is Cecelia Schmitt, and I am so excited to spend this summer with you at Camp Henry! I am a rising sophomore at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro where I plan to major in Kinesiology on the road to a Physical Therapy Degree. Some fun facts about me! I absolutely love working with kids because their excitement charges my enthusiasm. I waited my first table at my mom’s restaurant at the age of eleven (and managed to spill pimento cheese all over a woman’s feet). I love dancing and singing at the top of my lungs. I love makeup and all things glitter. I cannot wait for dining hall meals and eating spaghetti without hands. It has been my dream to be a counselor at Camp Henry since my first summer when I was ten. I cannot wait to witness God’s work in the awesome and beautiful place that is Lake Logan Episcopal Center with you all this summer.

Hey I’m Austin! I am a senior at Mars Hill University. This is my fourth year on staff at Camp Henry! I am so honored that I get to come back this year as a counselor! By now, I’m sure that many of you know me, but I always love spending time with new and old campers alike. I love being funny, playing music on stage, and being a leader as well. I’ve learned that Camp Henry is a place that you can be whomever you want to be and still feel loved. Camp has helped me evolve into the person that I have become today. My goal is to make sure you have the best time of your life as well as learn about God and yourself. I can’t wait to see you whether you are new to Camp or a returning camper! It’s a blessing to be back at Camp Henry this summer with you.

Hi, my name is Hunter and I am so excited to be apart of CAMP HENRY STAFF 2018!!! I grew up in metropolitan Mills River with my 4 brothers and a sister. I play lacrosse, ultimate, and soccer and will be studying political science in college. I have been going to camp for 5 years now and have loved it since the first time I went. One of my favorite things to do at camp is watch the stars on the field and play camper vs. counselor dodge ball. I look forward to meeting all of you and enjoying the most beautiful place I like to call home.

Hey what’s up y’all I’m Sophia!! I’m from Asheville, North Carolina and have been a member of Trinity Episcopal church my whole life. I am a freshman Exercise Science major and proud Mountaineer at Appalachian State University! I’m an avid dog and mountain lover. I also love running, drawing and hiking. I could not be more excited to be a Camp Henry counselor this summer! I have been attending this little slice of heaven since I was 8 years old and have fallen more in love with it each year! I’ve been a LAMPer for 3 consecutive summers and this will be my first year on staff at Camp Henry. My years at camp have truly given me some of the best memories and friendships I could have ever asked for, and I’m so excited for you guys to be a part of it! Catch y’all later!!

Hey everybody, my name is Josh Arditti!  I can’t wait to be at camp this summer with all you amazing campers.  I go to the Church of Ascension in Hickory, North Carolina.  I plan on studying business in college and could possibly play college tennis.  I love to play soccer, tennis, or frisbee with everybody!! I have been coming to camp for over ten years, and Camp Henry has been one of the most impactful experiences throughout my life.  I make a lot of jokes, and I always sing as loud as I can.  I can’t wait to meet all of you this summer and to share some of the best weeks of our lives!

Hey everybody!! My name is Sabriya Bacote, and I am so stoked to be a part of the Camp Henry staff this summer! A little bit about me, I was born in California and then moved to Florida a couple years later and have lived in Florida ever since! I am currently a Certified Nurse’s Assistant (C.N.A.) and have been recently working in a nursing and rehabilitation facility for the past year. I have also just finished my freshmen year at Santa Fe College. I plan to transfer to University of North Florida to pursue my dream in becoming a Physical Therapist. Some fun facts about me are: I am very passionate about running, I can lick my elbow (yeah it’s actually not impossible after all), I can stand on my head, and I used to attend Camp Henry for several years as a camper!! I think the only thing better than being a camper here, is getting the opportunity to be a counselor and having a whole summer filled with teaching kids about God’s unconditional love for us, waking up early and having enough energy to dance and sing at the top of your lungs, appreciating the beautiful setting that is Camp Henry, and the unbreakable bonds of friendship that form here while at camp. I am beyond thrilled to be able to go on this journey with you guys!

I currently play Women’s rugby for WCU, I have played Softball for over 14 years, and Tennis for just about 6 years. I have a goofy personality, and I love to have fun. I like to go outside and have fun, but I can also have a good time when indoors. I love kids, and have worked as a nannie for many years now. Can't wait to meet you all, and have terrific time this summer!

I’m Janet Snow, and I’m more than thrilled to be returning for my second summer on staff at Camp Henry. At camp, I’ve had so many wonderful adventures, like being a wizard and searching for Narwhals, and I’m ready to get back to dancing in silly costumes and having an awesome time at my favorite place on earth. During that other part of the year when I’m not at camp, I’m a student at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. I’m majoring in International Studies and English with a focus in Creative Writing, but I’ve ended up involved with everything from theatre to an archaeological dig this year. A few random fun facts: I’m originally from Elkin, NC, sometimes I draw and watercolor, I love to travel (Studying abroad in London in the fall) and being a Camp Henry Counselor was my first long-term life goal as a kid. Hello wonderful human beings of Camp Henry! My name is Sarah and I LOVE CHOS. Some other things I love are good knock knock jokes, french fries, and The Great Outdoors! I graduated from Brevard College with a major in English and Spanish, and a minor in education. While I wasn’t in class, I was enjoying all that Brevard and its surrounding forests have to offer, which is a lot! I currently attend, and work in the nursery, at St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Brevard. Growing up in the Episcopal church and benefitting from all that this community has to offer has inspired me to give back in the best way that I know how, working at Camp Henry. I can’t wait to have the most amazing summer with you all!

Hi, I am Diane Livingston, deacon at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Brevard where I have lived for 6 ½ years.  This summer I will serve at the Family Camp Session in June.  I like everything about Camp Henry especially the campers, the counselors, and beautiful Lake Logan.  Every time I go to camp I feel like the whole community is living the way God desires God’s creation to live.  Come and experience it!

David McNair, chaplain for Mini Camp June 20-13, 2018.  I am a diehard fan of Camp Henry!  I was the Camp Henry Director for 9 years before I was ordained a priest — and so I have witnessed firsthand the wonderful joy and community that happens every day at Camp Henry.  Many campers have said to me that their week at Camp Henry is a highlight of their entire year.

Hey Camp Henry Middle Schoolers! This is my second year being a CH chaplain, and I am so thankful to be back. Camp Henry is certainly a place to experience the love and creativity of God in nature and in the friendships we build. I am from Cleveland, OH originally, and let me say, there are no camps up north that match the beauty of Lake Logan (plus the food is really, really good!). I am so looking forward to getting to know you all this summer. Peace, Fr. John

The Rev. Karla Woggon. I've served as the Rector of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Hickory NC since 2007.  I grew up in Asheville and was a camper and counselor at Camp Henry when it was at In The Oaks.  When I returned to the Diocese in 2007 the first thing I did was ask to be a chaplain for a week at Camp Henry.  I love Camp Henry.  I've served as a chaplain for several highschool and middle school sessions, several sessions of CHOS, and for counselor training and have enjoyed them all. Praying with counselors and campers and watching them grow spiritually over a week is good for my soul.  I've also served as the chair of the Camp Henry Board for the last several years.

Will Bryant is from Asheville, NC. He is a former Camp Henry and CHOS counselor, and he will be serving as chaplain for Middle School CHOS from June 24-30. He currently works at the Cathedral of All Souls as a community organizer and youth minister. He LOVES being outside, cooking delicious food and reading interesting books.

The Lord be with you!

Hello, I’m Rev. Turner Guidry and this is my 5th year serving you at Camp as Chaplain. Never, ever have I experienced such a place of joy and love as at our Camp Henry. Amazing counselors and leaders, games and laughter, friendships renewed and formed, dancing, God, singing, praying, tears of joy……

I very much look forward to seeing you at Camp this summer and making lasting memories….and joy.

Hi! My name is Kathryn Florack. I am completely grateful and happy to continue my third year as the Camp Henry Director! I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2010 and was blessed to spend the next few years working and exploring around the US. More recently, for roughly two years, I was the youth director at Ascension in Hickory, NC. When I’m not hanging out with my family or playing Pocahontas (which involves running in the woods while singing ‘Just Around the Riverbend’), I focus on my big goals of saving the world and finding stardom on ‘Survivor’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Other interests include travel, friends and family, snowboarding, music, exclamation points, the enneagram, ultimate frisbee, push-ups, and being outside as much as possible. None of this would have been possible without Camp Henry and Lake Logan; I have had the unbelievable fortune of attending Camp Henry ever since I was eleven years old, and after many years, being a camper, counselor, associate director, I am so very honored and excited to continue this journey. Before I became the Director of Camp Henry, I also had the wonderful opportunity to work on the Conference Center side, working at Lake Logan during the non-summer months, which allowed me to share the spiritually “thin” place with people of all ages while enjoying the amazing property year round. This is a place that teaches you how to laugh so hard you cry, about the power of unconditional love, how to make friendships that last a lifetime, about the consequences of singing and playing all day, about the wonder of God, and how to appreciate all the beauty that life has to offer. Thank you so much for welcoming me into your community. I can’t wait for you to join us! I look forward to going on this beautiful adventure with you all!
